Everyone knows about the damaging effects of the UV lights. It affects the skin cells, so they get destroyed, you age faster, and let’s not forget about the horrible melanoma and other types of skin cancer. Every doctor you will ever go to will say the same thing: Stay out of the sun!
But staying out of the sun is almost impossible. You have to go outside the house nearly every day. It’s not like there is a carriage waiting to take you to work each morning. You will spend some time under UV rays inevitably. Which is why the most viable solution against the damaging effects of the ultraviolet rays is a high-quality sunscreen.
However, not all sunscreens are good for your skin, especially on your face. As you may well be aware of, the skin on your face is more sensitive than the rest of your body, which is why it requires special attention. Therefore, the best choice when it comes to protecting your face is a mineral sunscreen.
What is a mineral sunscreen?
Sunscreen based on natural minerals such as zinc oxide and titanium oxide is a lotion meant to protect your face skin from the UV rays. However, it is not like a regular sunscreen, but rather more beneficial to your skin cells. There is no absorption whatsoever because it does not contain the chemicals responsible for skin penetration. The sunscreen will only form a protective layer on the surface of the skin, much like a mirror, which will block and deviate the UVs entirely.
You don’t need to worry that it’ll feel chalky. It will take longer than usual to rub it on the skin, but there are other natural oils in its content that will be responsible for your skin’s comfort, as well as aspect.
The benefits of mineral sunscreen
It’s not news that everything that is natural has a lot more advantages for the body than the chemical-filled products. It is the same with the face mineral sunscreen. You can benefit more from zinc oxide and titanium oxide, rather than from oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. The last ingredients can be found in all chemical sunscreens. Not necessarily all of them at once, but combinations of at least two.
In case you are wondering what exactly you have to gain from a mineral face sunscreen, here are few good reasons to ditch the old, chemical one, and buy yourself a more natural product.
Science is on your side
It is scientifically proven that a mineral sunblock is highly efficient when it comes to protecting your skin from damage caused by UV rays. So why use a bad sunscreen when science tells you exactly what’s best for you?
As I mentioned above, there are six chemical ingredients that can be found in everyday sunscreens. They may be all together, or just a combination of two or three. They penetrate the skin and invite the UV rays in. Whereas a mineral sunblock uses zinc and titanium to act as a reflective surface to push the UV rays away. There is no absorption which means fewer chemicals in your skin.
There is no waiting time
All sunscreens have the same advice. You have to wait for a period between 15 and 30 minutes before going into the sun. That is because the chemicals take a while to be fully absorbed and cause any effect. But natural mineral sunscreens don’t act that way. They do not get into the skin, so they don’t need any time to become active. You can get out right after you apply it.
Natural broad-spectrum protection
In case you are not familiar with UV rays, there are two types: UVB, meaningburning rays, and UVA, aging rays. All chemical sunscreens fight the first kind. They all protect you against burns, but not all of them protect you from early aging. Except for mineral sunscreens. They do allthat naturally. If you have a chemical sunscreen around, just look at the label. You will see that it protects you from UVB, but not UVA. An anti-aging agent is crucial, especially for your face.
Perfect for sensitive skin
If your skin is sensitive, then you know how difficult it is to find a proper sunblock. Most of them cause irritations and burning sensations, which is stressful given the fact you want to go to the beach. Itchy skin is the last thing you want while laying in the sun. But mineral sunscreens are less irritating. There are no allergies or skin reactions caused by minerals. So if the skin on your face is sensitive, I advise you to purchase the best mineral sunscreen for face care you could possibly find.
Did you know that oxybenzone is damaging the coral reefs? They are the home for 25% of the marine life. Do you really want them do lose their homes? I didn’t think so. A chemical sunscreen will damage algae, which is the reef’s primary source of nourishment. When algae die, so does the reef. So use a mineral sunscreen. Something that comes out of the earth will go back there without leaving negative consequences behind.
What is the best mineral sunscreen for face care?
There are many good products on the market, but only a few can be considered absolutely the best. Their features and ability to protect the face’s skin are very appreciated by customers.
Coola Suncare Mineral Face SPF 30 Sunscreen Matte Tint, 1.7 Fl. oz
I used this product personally, and I must say that I was very satisfied with its effects. I did not feel my face chalky, and it was a pretty good moisturizer. The sun did not burn my face at all. I preferred the unscented version, but the cucumber one is not less good.
The Coola sunblock acts as a natural shield against UVAs and UVBs. You can apply it whether you go to the beach or you simply get out of the house on a very sunny day. The good news is that it is also infused with anti-oxidants, which means you will also be protected from damaging city atmosphere. Dust particles will mess with your skin unless you apply an anti-oxidant lotion. So there you have it. Two birds, one stone.
There are no chemicals in it, same as all natural mineral sunscreens. All ingredients are organic. It says so on the bottle, but I am sure it’s true. Beauty Launchpad designated Coola Suncare the award for the best suncare. Whatever the prize, it did work for me, so I can vouch for it.
What I liked the most about this sunblock was the sensation I had after applying it. My face felt moisturized and smooth. That is because of the organic shea butter. Not to mention that it was not oily (because of the matte feature).
The only drawback of this product is that people with dry skin may feel a bit too dry. The mattifying substance makes this sunblock give your face a dry aspect. But when your skin is already dry, the Coola Suncare will make it even dryer. Apply a moisturizer, and you will be okay.
Also, it lasts only 40 minutes if you go swimming. So, after getting back from the water, you have to reapply the sunblock for maximum protection. Click here to read more reviews and buy on Amazon.
Tizo Solar Protection Formula, Facial Mineral Fusion SPF 40, 1.75 Ounce
Apart from the zinc oxide and the titanium oxide, this sunscreen also contains iron. It will protect your face’s skin, all while giving it a well hydrated, elegant, and matte aspect. It is an unscented formula, but this is always better. I have always preferred these instead of the perfume formulas.
This product provides excellent protection against UVA and UVB rays with a protection factor of 40, and of course, there are no chemicals in its composition.
Wearing Tizo Solar Protection under your makeup will not be a problem. Its texture makes it feel like some kind of primer. Not only that will hydrate your face’s skin, but will also cause your makeupto last longer.
The waterproof feature is another pro argument. You can use it when you go to the beach or to the pool. And, what’s more, the protection will last for 80 minutes while in the water, unlike the previous one which lasted half that time. After the 80 minutes, you have to reapply, but this is the thing with natural sunscreens. They are not absorbed by the skin, which means the water will wash them away. But better to reapply a few times than filling your skin with all those chemicals, right?
The tint version could easily work as a foundation for some women. And you know how hard it is to wear makeup in the summer. It’s too hot to put on a thick layer, and you have to use powder because the sweat makes your face look oily. But not with Tizo Solar Protection. It has excellent coverage, all while giving your face a fresh, matte aspect. It’s a great alternative to foundation.
The downside to this product is that the tinted version contains small quantities of silicone. What that means, basically, is that if you have sensitive skin, your pores may get clogged, which is not great. So I recommend the untinted version for people with sensitive skin. EltaMD UV Physical Broad-Spectrum SPF 41 85-Gram
This sunblock will compliment your face’s complexion with a tinted version that will make your face radiant. It is not scented and is very lightweight. You will feel it very light on your skin. The formula will not clog your pores, which makes it perfect for people with sensitive skin. You will not get an outbreak after a few days of use.
You can use the EltaMD sunblock on your face, as well as the rest of your body. It will create an excellent layer of protection against UVAs as well as UVBs. For maximum protection, you can use it underneath your makeup as a primer. It may be mineral, but it will still hydrate your face.
As all mineral sunscreens, it must be reapplied after 40 minutes if you go into the water, or 2 to 3 hours just for maintaining protection. As I said before, the mineral sunblocksdo not penetrate the surface of the skin. With no absorption, there is no way that the protection can last 24 hours.
Reading about this product I saw that there are women out there who use this sunscreen as a BB cream. It’s weightless, blends in perfectly with the skin, so why not? As long as you are satisfied with the results and you are protected from the damaging UV rays, you can do whatever you want.
The best thing about the sunscreen from EltaMD is that you can use it regardless of your skin type. Even if you are the proud owner of sensitive skin, you can still use it. It will cause no issues. Click here to read more reviews and buy on Amazon.
Choosing the best mineral sunscreen for face care is hard when you have to pick one of the three best formulas. But alas, there has to be one that exceeds the others. My choice lies with the Tizo Solar Protection. From where I stand, it has it all. The untinted version is good for sensitive skin, it is mineral, and it last longer than the other two if you decide to go swimming. As far as I am concerned, this is the one I am going to try.
Just because I chose Tizo, that doesn’t mean the other two products aren’t good. Quite the contrary actually. I believe all three are excellent and trustworthy. It all depends on your skin and what works better. At the end of the day, it is entirely your choice. Click here to buy on Amazon
